West Auckland is a hive of diverse cultures, geographical wonders and interesting things to do, but it can be hard to know where to start. Check out our list of the top favourite things to do in West Auckland; whether you’ve got a little bit of time, or a lot – there’s something for everyone.

Happy little boy passing the cable route high among trees, climbing and playing, extreme sport in adventure park

Tree Adventures

This popular attraction is nestled in the dense native New Zealand bush, and you get to explore it at staggering heights! An adventure course that is great for all ages, Tree Adventures lets you swing, climb, zipline, traverse and try not to look down as you get up close and personal with the forest. The company rightly states that this obstacle course lets you ‘unleash your inner monkey’, and we couldn’t think of a better environment to do that in than in dense, quintessentially Kiwi bushland! Due to its limited capacity and rural location, bookings are required to avoid disappointment, and you will need to use a private vehicle (taxi or car hire) to get there, so make sure you plan your visit in advance.

Vineyard

The Vino Track

If you are a wine and food lover, the next stop on your itinerary should be ‘Kumeu’. With a range of world-famous wines to enjoy and different settings, the selection of vineyards in Kumeu is exceptional. The Hunting Lodge Winery and Restaurant offers delicious grub and world-class wines – and you can even experience glamping while you’re there. For a different vibe, Soljans Estate Winery is an incredibly popular and airy cafe and cellar door – perfect for tasting and touring. If you’re after a special backdrop or venue for an upcoming event or destination wedding, the West Auckland vineyards are popular choices with all the amenities you could want.

Strawberry on human hands

Strawberry Picking For the Whole Family

The west of Auckland is super popular for strawberry fields, and there are a number of options where you are allowed to pick your own fresh strawberries and even purchase real strawberry ice cream & treats – a real favourite outing for kids and adults alike. Enjoy the beautiful summer air and experience a wholesome outdoor activity everyone can get behind. While the strawberry season is limited to the summer months, you should call ahead and check availability before heading onto popular strawberry fields, which include Sweet Red, Zaknich Farms, Zaberri and Phil Greig Strawberries.

Shop & Dine at Street Markets

If you love tasting local foods and picking up locally produced goods or knick-knacks – then you have to add one or two of the West Auckland markets to your itinerary. From a Friday night market that rotates around delicious street foods called the Te Atatu Food Truck Collective Night Market, to the regular Titirangi Village Market – you’ll be sure to stumble across unique tastes, bargain buys and finds in a traditional shopping environment that is never the same twice. The night market is one of the most fun things to do in West Auckland for a family-friendly night out that’s a little bit different from your usual entertainment, where everyone can get a big feed and a feel for the local Kiwi community. With a selection of different seasonal offerings, environments, dates and styles of market, you can indulge in a spot of retail therapy at Flea Markets, kids’ markets, artisan markets, food markets and many more activities in West Auckland by checking the local notice boards or hopping online to see out what’s on at one of New Zealand’s biggest online event platforms – Eventfinda.
